"Move-on" Message & Template
This tutorial tells how to create a "move-on" message for an old video topic, which is required when it is time for a new video topic. Note 1 Topic and thread are interchangeable terms.

Detailed instructions
After the above have been done, it remains to unsticky the old video topic and sticky the new video topic. Both of these tasks will be done by Admin at the first opportunity.
Notes
1. All characters within this topic only are ANSI encoded; no UNICODE characters are used. This proscribes certain graphics characters, but allows this topic to be backed up by copying everything to a simple text file. For simplicity it is recommended that only ANSI-encoded characters be used in messages that are to be saved to a .txt file for backup.
2. The Subject field is limited to 50 characters in this forum, So far, this has not caused a problem, but an especially long title might require some adjustment/editing to fit everything in the field.
3. The end eleven characters of a YouTube video's URL is called a watch key and specifies the video that will play when the URL is used. It is case-sensitive and may include letters, numerals and certain special characters, all of which must be copied faitfully.
4. Even though the right arrow symbol appears in the template instead of the code for that symbol, it will copy OK.
5. The link to the new topic is to another page of this forum, so it is an internal link. Internal links may have, but are not required to have, the forum's domain name to be present, because the system knows to stay within the forum's pages. Therefore the

This tutorial tells how to create a "move-on" message for an old video topic, which is required when it is time for a new video topic. Note 1 Topic and thread are interchangeable terms.
Work plan
- Elise posts a new video on YouTube. (This is the triggering event for what follows.)
- Any registered member or admin creates a new topic for the new video.
- Any registered member or admin closes the old topic by adding a "move-on" message as the last reply there.
- Admin unstickies the old topic.
- Admin stickies the new topic and bumps it to the top of the board index.
Work tasks
- Create the new video topic's OP first. This will cause the system to generate a thread number.
- Learn the thread number.
- Copy the template (furnished below) to the Windows clipboard.
- Begin the reply.
- Paste the template into the reply.
- Type over "N" with the thread number.
- Post the reply.
- Test the link.
Detailed instructions
- Create the new video topic:
- Click Create Thread at the top of the board index to open a dialog box.
- Enter the thread title into the Subject field as follows:
- Type "Video: ". (The space is for appearance.)
- In another tab of the browser, go to the new video's watch page on YouTube.
- Copy the title from below the video window (highlight the title text and press [Ctrl-C]).
- Return to the forum and paste the title into the Subject field following "Video: " (press [Ctrl-V]).Note 2
- Type a single space for appearance.

- The finished title might look like this: "Ollie Fears Elise's Rolling Pin (Sep 5, 2017)"
- Enter the message into the dialog box as follows:
- Optionally, type some introductory words about the new video. Note 2
- Press [Enter] to obtain a blank line to provide some white space above the video window.
- Enter a call to embed the new YouTube video. Example: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbtKuOSpzSQ" Note 3 This can be done in one of two ways; either type the code in manually or use the forum's Insert Video icon to create it as follows:
- Click the Insert Video feature icon (looks like a movie clapper) at the top of the dialog box to open the feature.
- On YouTube, copy the URL from your browser's address window when viewing the new video.
- Paste the URL into the Insert Video's feature's Video URL: field.
- Click Insert Video to create the call.
- The finished call will have the form

- Press [Enter] to obtain a blank line to provide some white space below the video window.
- Optionally, type any other text you wish to put in the message.
- Post the new video topic by clicking Create Thread that appears at the bottom of the topic dialog box.
- Inspect the OP and, if necessary, make any corrections by editing.
- Look in the browser address field and learn the thread number assigned by the forum. Example:
http://eliseharris.freeforums.net/thread/13/....
- Create a reply—the "move-on" message—in the old video topic:
- Navigate to the last reply in the old video topic.
- Click Reply to open a dialog box.
- Copy the following template and paste it into the dialog box:
Forum discussion is continued in the [a href="/thread/N/"]next video topic[/a].
Note 5
There has been a new video and we have moved on. Please don't post here unless you wish to follow up on some matter that originated here. Thanks. - Type over N with the thread number of the new video topic that was learned above.
- Post the reply by clicking Create Post.
- Test the link by clicking it and ensuring that the browser goes to the new video topic as planned.
After the above have been done, it remains to unsticky the old video topic and sticky the new video topic. Both of these tasks will be done by Admin at the first opportunity.

portion may be omitted, shortening the link to /thread/N/
, where N is the thread number learned from above. Note that, in additon to being simpler, an internal link may be a bit faster.Version: 20151124 12:02 PM --CampKohler
